So if you’re feeling anything like me, despite it only being hump day you know it’s already squaring up to be a loooooong week. The weather is cold and wet, but you’ve managed to haul ass to the gym and on finally getting into something comfy and settling down for a couple of hours before bed and doing it all over again, you really fancy a little pick me up.
You my friend, need steak.
To quote Mr YumDimSum… well, after wading through the babbling streams of Oh-my-Gods and I’m-so-happy-right-nows and we’re-eating-this-every-weeks, he came out with something which sums up this meal perfectly:
“The taste to effort ratio on this meal is better than anything else we’ve ever made.”
And aside from making the steak sandwich sound like some kind of top trump Pokemon card I totally agree. You can make most delicious home made meals in thirty minutes, but this took just fifteen. That was with me poncing about with a camera as well. On your marks. Get set. STEAK!
- 2 ribeye steaks
- 1 large ciabatta loaf
- Olive oil
- 1 red onion
- Handful of plum tomatoes, halved
- Red pesto
Heat up a pan with a drizzle of olive oil and give your rings of onion a flash fry with some balsamic. You want them to be tender but not soft, so they still have a kick. When done, take them out and throw in your steaks! Cook it how you like, but know this: if it’s not bloody I judge thee
Anyway, whilst that sizzles away you can get most of your sandwich sorted.
Spread on as much horseradish as you dare and pile up the rocket. In a small bowl mix your plum tomatoes with a teaspoon of red pesto and salt. If you’re a steak fan with taste your meat will now be ready to take out the pan and rest. Now, see those juices left in the pan? Cast your tomatoes in them for more flavour! Same rule for the tomatoes: just warm them through but don’t cook.
Construction is now ready to commence. Hard hats and scaffolding may be required.
Tip: Always cut your steak into strips. Leave it whole and your teeth will never tackle this beast!
Go forth and be happy, you hard worker you!
